Looking forward to Kauai

A cadet works on celestial navigation
Written By Madalyn Reynolds, Assistant Purser, and Jessica Fowler, Purser

Ahoy!

We are halfway through another week aboard TSGB and eagerly awaiting our arrival in Kauai! Cadets and crew alike have gotten into busy routines at sea which helps the time pass. The weather is absolutely beautiful now and seas are calm.

Over the last few days, we had our first BBQ and karaoke night, completed a Man Overboard drill, Oceanographers showcased some of their findings from the journey so far (everything from microplastics to a small crab who is currently living in the Marine Biology lab), and of course our usual time changes, drills, daywork, classroom and watch rotations have continued. The food has been excellent (shout out to Chartwells) and spirits seem to be high right now. We have some awesome ports to look forward to coming up and people are energized.

Visibility has increased and cadets have been able to get outside and work on their Celestial Navigation. The prime time to complete this work is the first half of Sea Term while we have good weather and head into the tropics.

Fair winds and following seas...

Check back often and follow the voyage with our series that gives the latest news from Summer Sea Term! TSGB will travel to San Diego, CA, Kauai, HI, Guam, Saipan, NMI, and Seattle, WA, prior to returning to Vallejo on July 6. Stay tuned for updates.
