At Cal Poly Maritime Academy, the undergraduate experience is defined by action. Driven by our Learn by Doing philosophy, students apply what they learn in the classroom through hands-on experiences—from research projects and time aboard our training ship to immersive simulated environments. Gaining real-world experience isn’t the exception—it’s the foundation of your education.
Learn by Doing
Gain knowledge and skills in real-world scenarios whether you are on the deck, in the engine room or working from shore. Our graduates gain experience, leadership and confidence while learning before ever starting their career.

Applied Research
Our maritime undergraduates are encouraged to dive into research and tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing our oceans, ports and global industries. As a university, we aim to connect students with hands-on opportunities across California and the world.
