Specialized Career Path

Students can choose from three focused tracks: Energy Design, Mechanical Design or the U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer License option for maritime careers. Our curriculum supports specialization through electives and culminates in a two-semester senior capstone project. Upon graduation, you’ll have the ability to solve complex problems, design for real-world needs and communicate effectively.

Learn By Doing Training

All Mechanical Engineering students begin with a shared first-year curriculum and experience aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear with a 60+ day Summer Sea Term. Students learn fundamentals in math, science, communication, critical thinking and leadership. The program integrates lab work in areas of fluids/thermal, controls and manufacturing.

Internships

Internships provide a vital part of the Learn by Doing experience as student work hands-on with industry partners and prepare for their careers. Through required summer internships, students apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, build professional networks and gain insight into various engineering roles. This enhances your technical and leadership skills giving you a competitive edge in the job market.
