International Experiences
Every International Strategy and Security student completes an International Experience—a Cal Poly Maritime Academy–led program that immerses you in new cultures and delivers global perspectives.
More than a requirement, this immersive journey will shape how you see the world—and your place in it. You’ll explore diverse cultures, expand your worldview and gain international insights that set you apart in a competitive job market. To date, students have traveled to more than 20 countries across four continents

Internships
Every Cal Poly Maritime Academy student completes at least one internship as part of their academic journey. These real-world experiences help you build transferable skills, expand your professional network and strengthen your résumé before graduation. Internship placements span a wide range of organizations—including the U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA, the FBI, the Secret Service, the Pacific Maritime Association and many others.
Model United Nations Program
The Model United Nations (MUN) program gives students a dynamic, team-based way to explore global issues and international politics. The MUN team competes at conferences across the West Coast during the fall and spring semesters—building skills in diplomacy, public speaking and strategic thinking.
