Degree programs and accreditation begin
A major milestone in the institution’s academic growth came as the academy became a four-year college, which laid the groundwork for accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Launched in 1974, the initial degrees in Nautical Industrial Technology and Marine Engineering Technology reflected a commitment to providing a more advanced and comprehensive maritime education.
The academy received accreditation in 1977 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and also by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
